Kurt Russell — A Real Man

Kurt Russell won’t be getting invited to Inside the Actors’ Studio anytime soon1:

“To go on about acting as art is ridiculous. You don’t have to be gifted just to hit a mark and a line. As far as I’m concerned that’s 90 per cent of the job. Anyone who finds acting difficult just shouldn’t be doing it.”

No metrosexual whining from him. No angst. No melodrama. Yes, okay, he’s underselling his craft, but it’s sure a nice counter to the usual pretentious carrying on.

  1. And proves that he wouldn’t care, in any event. [back]

Heh. And all I can think about is Russell’s performance in Soldier, which pretty much embodied the “hit a mark and a line” philosophy.

That’s not quite fair. I mean, he was being directed by Paul W.S. Anderson. Would you give the director of Alien vs. Predator your all, knowing that whatever you gave him, it was just going to be wasted? :)

For almost anybody else, Russell is a consummate professional. A major reason I liked Death Proof as much as I did was his performance.
