It is with a curious sense of schadenfreude that I make this post.
Just last night I was chatting online, when my interlocutor, amidst several dubious claims, said that America had not won in Iraq. She made the mistake of defining “victory” objectively in a way that was ridiculous — she said that [...]

Much as I loved Jim Mitchell’s Bogart theme, he recently had a bad experience with theme thievery and started getting stricter about Bogart’s Creative Commons Attribution-No Derivative Works license.1
While I loved the theme, I made some changes to it (the typography for blockquotes, e.g.). And since part of his problem was with sites with [...]

No idea why, but nobody can see individual posts or make comments right now.
Will look into it.
Update:
Switched to the WordPress default permalink style, and that works. It’s ugly, but it works. Will try tonight to go back to the old style.
Update II:
Oh, great, another bug in the 2.6 release. Well, at least [...]

That’s it. Tried it one one of my other blogs, and it refused to let me log in.
And the one moderator I’ve interacted with at the WordPress support forums is not only being unhelpful, but kind of a jerk as well.
Wait for 2.6.1. Do not, under any circumstance, upgrade to 2.6.
That is all.
UPDATE: [...]

“Is Prestige Worth It?” by Dr. Thomas Sowell. About selecting a university.
“Tim Russert (1950–2008)” by Dr. Thomas Sowell. Dr. Sowell is always worth reading.
“Is the Universe actually made of [...]

I’ve been having problems with WordPress 2.5’s flash uploader, basically it won’t upload anything.
I googled around and found this document, tried every piece of advice, none of which worked.
So I finally installed and activated the No Flash Uploader plugin. And now the Flash Uploader works.
Just weird.

Granted, it’s an amusing contradiction, and wonderfully evocative, rather like Dickens’s “rapacious benevolence” from Bleak House (and thanks, jk, for informing me of that one!), though with a somewhat opposite connotation.
It is also a wonderfully apt and accurate description of how I approach the world, for better or worse.
I like to be a nice guy. [...]

Internet access to anywhere outside of China is still hit or miss (mostly miss).
Stupid geological pressure release.
