… soothes the savage breast

Some Sammi

The wonderful Sammi Cheng, singing “Forever Beauty” from the film Love On A Diet (check out her fat suit!):

Dr. House is a (musical) genius!

One day on Amazon

Amazon’s MP3 store has a special, a steep discount on one album every day. And whoever’s choosing them seems to have excellent taste. Two days ago they put up Herbie Hancock’s Maiden Voyage album for $0.99. I noticed it in time to snag it, but too late to advertise it to my [...]

Upbeat (with no cynicism)

To make up for the previous post, here’s Sidney Bechet’s rendition of “Just Wild About Harry”:

Cold, Cold Heart

Superstar

More music for Valentine’s Day.
This is S.H.E.’s signature song, “Superstar”, and, while rocking rather hard, is a fairly romantic notion (the important part is in English).

(I know, the video’s lame, but the song is good, and you get to see Ella doing her “tough chick” deal.)

Prettiest Eyes

Best. Love song. Ever.
And yes, this makes me think of Herself. Of course.

Halleleujah I love her so

Ray Charles puts it like nobody else can:

This one is (again) for Herself. Happy Valentine’s Day!

Thank you

Herself once recommended this song to me, and now I’m posting it for her.
“Thank You” by Dido:

My love, I will never go

A while ago I posted the video for my second favorite A Mei song.
This one is my favorite. The title translates as “Sunrise”, and it begins with a chant from traditional Mongolian folk music (or, if it’s not Mongolian, I’m sure Viola will correct me).

The video is taken from VCD, and is thus muddy [...]

Yu Jian by Stefanie Sun

This is the theme song to one of my favorite movies, Turn Left, Turn Right, and is quite a lovely song:

Ahhhhhh, A-Mei!

Here’s the video for probably my favorite A-Mei song, “Chen Shou”1. The video is static and not that great2, and A-Mei is sporting a not-so-flattering hairdo3.
But the song remains wonderfully upbeat. (It loads really slowly here in China; hope it’s better for all youse guys everywhere else.)
I think it translates as “Holding Hands”, [...]
