That's not quite fair. I mean, he was being directed by Paul W.S. Anderson. Would you give the director of Alien vs. Predator your all, knowing that whatever you gave him, it was just going to be wasted? :)

For almost anybody else, Russell is a consummate professional. A major reason I liked Death Proof as much as I did was his performance.

Heh. And all I can think about is Russell's performance in Soldier, which pretty much embodied the "hit a mark and a line" philosophy.

Who says I'm not giving him a chance? Even if I don't want to, the man has the highest office in the land, and the world, for four years. He's got his chance.

That does not require me to be foolishly optimistic and ignore his history, his lack of experience, his avowed radicalism, or his total lack of accomplishment.

He might indeed prove me wrong and turn out to be a good or great president. Given what we know so far, I have every reason to doubt that outcome.

Mom said he's gonna do something about the legalization of illegal aliens in the US (she watches lots of news channels and I don't) and other immigration issues, is it true? Maybe you should give the man a chance to do what he can.

Hi, Leo, haven't seen you in a while. :)

The movie does look impressive, and in fact has had a test screening up in Washington State. The rumors I've heard about the change to the ending worry me, because I think they'll throw off the thematic balance of the tale, but everything else seems to have been nailed by Zach Snyder.

(I'm not against changing the climax, which is not the strongest part of the book, but the way it has been changed doesn't sound... right. At least to me. They still have plenty of time to get it right, though.)

I do like Rorschach as a character, though as far as heroes go, I think I prefer his antecedent, Steve Ditko's creation The Question. That was, if nothing else, an incredibly cool idea for a hero.

Hi Ian, I haven't dropped in in a while.

Watchmen looks very impressive. Rorschach is THE comic book hero I can actually get behind. (Sociopaths I can get behind. Best line. "You don't understand. You are trapped in here with ME.)

It's shot and in editing, so it will come out, I just hope it is brilliant and enjoyable.

Heh. Good comic book movies are possible. My parents (mid-70's) really liked Ironman. And loved the first Indiana Jones movie. They don't get any of the batman movies, since it wasn't like the 60's series. heh.

Heh.

OK, granted, that explanation is far more likely, but I thought the suggestion of a psychic connection, even psychic control by the wife, was more interesting to contemplate.

I watched this with the kids a couple of weeks ago. We came to the conclusion that Lugosi could smell his wife's presence outside, since she'd been living for YEARS in a room hidden beneath the toolshed, without benefit of hygiene or the mental faculties that normally dictate it. We also came to the conclusion that we've rarely seen stupider police detectives.
